Prarambh Summary of Ghanshyam Charitra Chapters 1 to 9

 


Chapter 1 Summary (English)

In the beautiful village of Chhapaiya near Ayodhya, filled with trees and birds, a divine event took place.

On Chaitra Sud Navmi, Samvat 1837, at night, Dharmadev and Bhaktimata were blessed with a son. The entire village celebrated with joy, chanting, and donations.

This child was not ordinary but the incarnation of Parabrahma Purushottam Narayan as Ghanshyam.

A divine light radiated from the child, astonishing everyone. Gods arrived in celestial vehicles and showered flowers, celebrating the divine birth.

Chapter 2 Summary (English)

A demon named Kalidatt sent fierce demonesses (krutyaas) to kill the divine child. They kidnapped the child and took him to a mango grove.

Hanumanji saw this and immediately rescued the child. He punished the demonesses, who begged for mercy and fled.

Later, Kalidatt sent a powerful demoness named Kotara. But when she tried to attack, the divine child destroyed her instantly with just a glance.

Thus, the child displayed divine power by protecting himself and destroying evil forces.

Chapter 3 Summary (English)

At the age of two and a half months, the divine child showed extraordinary behavior. One day, when Bhaktimata left him in the cradle, he got down, picked up his pacifier, and returned to the cradle.

Ramdayal witnessed this and was amazed. Soon, divine light radiated from the child, filling the entire room.

Seeing this, Ramdayal became convinced that the child was truly God.

Chapter 4 Summary (English)

When the child turned three months old, Markandeya Muni visited Dharmadev’s home. Dharmadev requested him to name the child and predict his future.

The Muni said that due to his zodiac (Cancer), he would be called “Hari,” and due to his dark complexion, “Krishna.” Together, he would be named “Harikrishna.” He would also be known as “Ghanshyam” and later “Nilkanth.”

He predicted that the child would establish dharma, remove suffering, grant samadhi, and guide people towards devotion.

Dharmadev was pleased and offered gifts to the Muni.

Chapter 5 Summary (English)

Dharmadev once decided to test his son. He placed three items on a decorated seat — a gold coin, a book, and a small sword — to see what the child would choose.

The child immediately came and picked up the book.

Seeing this, Dharmadev and Bhaktimata understood that their son would become highly knowledgeable and wise.

Chapter 6 Summary (English)

When Ghanshyam was seven months old, Bhaktimata decided to pierce his ears. As the person tried to touch his ear, divine light radiated from Ghanshyam’s body, frightening him.

Ghanshyam disappeared and appeared on a tree, while also being seen near his mother at the same time. Everyone witnessed his two forms.

Finally, Ghanshyam agreed to get his ears pierced after being given jaggery.

Chapter 7 Summary (English)

Once Bhaktimata felt very hungry as Lakshmibai was taking time to cook. Seeing this, the child Ghanshyam mentally ordered the eight divine siddhis to bring food.

Instantly, they appeared and brought plates filled with many delicacies. Ghanshyam first ate a little and then asked his mother to eat.

Later, Lakshmibai arrived with food and was surprised to see this divine scene. Ghanshyam instructed the siddhis to come only when needed, and they disappeared.

Chapter 8 Summary (English)

One afternoon, Ghanshyam asked for food. Bhaktimata gave him cold khichdi and went to milk the cow Gomati, but no milk came out.

When Ghanshyam arrived and placed a vessel under the cow, milk started flowing continuously and filled many containers. Later, Ghanshyam stopped the flow.

Seeing this miracle, Bhaktimata happily prepared milk pudding (doodhpak) and puri instead of khichdi.

Chapter 9 Summary (English)

In his third year, Ghanshyam’s father decided to shave his hair and called a barber named Amayi. During the process, Ghanshyam suddenly became invisible to the barber, though others could still see him.

The barber got frightened. Upon Bhaktimata’s request, Ghanshyam appeared again, and the barber completed the shaving.

The barber realized that the child was divine and left with faith.
